Blackwater Lane Review: Predictable Plot With Errie Jumpscares

Blackwater Lane

The Blackwater Lane Review takes a lot for me to watch a film and I immediately think it’s one of the best movies, I have ever seen before. It might be even more of a feat, however, for a film to simultaneously repulse and bore me so much that, within all the muck released every year, I am pushed to think that this may indeed be one of the worst parts of cinema that my eyes laid on. The latter was the case with Jeff Celentano’s drab suspenser the film Blackwater Lane.

All About Blackwater Lane Story, Cast

The film Blackwater Lane is a horror movie, which is directed by Jeff Celentano. The trailer of the movie came out on YouTube and the Release Date is June 21, 2024, The writer of the movie is Elizabeth Fowler, B.A. Paris. Movie cast by Dermot Mulroney, Maggie Grace, Minka Kelly, Natalie Simpson, Edward Baker-Duly, Kris Johnson, Pandora Clifford, and Henry William Galpin.

In the first ten minutes of what will be a slog of an hour and 48-minute runtime, Blackwater Lane introduces us to uninteresting protagonist Cass, who is soullessly played by Minka Kelly. Surrounding Cass is her good-for-nothing husband, Matthew (Dermot Mulroney), and there her seemingly friend Rachel (Maggie Grace) supports her, who continues to be as grating as they are in the early minutes. Cass sees a woman alone sitting in a Car on a stormy night and proceeds to drive home without helping her.

Minka Kelly Is Unwatchable

In the movie Blackwater Lane, the performance of Minks Kelly is just about as confounding as her character, She shows no concern for the woman (Jane Walters), who she sees at the roadside, and who later turns out to have been murdered. She says, ” If I am being generous, ” she brings three expressions to the table: A generic scared face, a confused glance, and a neutral stare. Celentano likely plans to create enticing opacity or an informational blankness for the latter emotion but performs neither.

The way Cass is written does no favors for Kelly in the role. Though part of the plot involves the characters being gaslit, a huge chunk of the tension lies in the fact that Cass has a terrible memory. It is not in the interesting, unreliable narrator-type way. She just cannot remember stuff, a trait the film returns to whenever it’s convenient.

Our Protagonist has a habitual issue with forgetting events, Jane Walters remembers one thing the night she drove.  The movie intends to show Cass’s trauma by bringing viewers back to the event, but it does so eight times. After the film I got back to it a second time within the first 20 minutes, she knows this number because I started taking a tally. As the film lazily made its through its scenes, I was both irritated and amused each time the same shot would appear again.

Blackwater Lane Subverts Nothing & Reverts To Every Trope Imaginable

The movie is derivative of much better films and TV shows, there is lazy scripting, and the oversaturation of identical scenes is not enough, Blackwater Lane also lacks any sense of novelty. The film borrows from the kind of unseen terrors in Invisible Man or the mental health and marital fractures displayed in the series Behind Her Eyes but offers nothing new. In the distilled version of these tropes, building to an over-explicated conclusion.

Blackwater Lane film is now playing in theaters and is available on demand and digital platforms. The movie is rated PG-13 for violent content, and there are thematic elements involving suicide, sexuality, and terror.
