Diaz, Arnold started his career as a reporter for WPLG-TV in Miami from the early to mid-1970s, then moved to WCBS-TV in New York, where he served from the mid-1970s to the early 1990s. He was one of the original television news consumer watchdogs who exposed wrongdoings and incompetence by private industry and government agencies. He created the Shame on You series of reports which won him 25 local Emmy Awards.

From 1995 to 2003, he served as ABC’s Consumer Investigative Reporter, earning the National Press Club Consumer Journalism Award and the Consumer Federation of America Media Service Award. In 2003, he returned to WCBS and revived the Shame On You section. He remained there until his move to WNYW in 2006, where his portion underwent a new name of pity, sorrow. He was inducted into the Silver Circle of the National Academy of Arts and Sciences in 1995. He joined WPIX in January 2014 along with veteran writers Mary Murphy and chief investigator Howard Thompson as a member of the newly established” PIx11 Investigates” unit. After a 50-year occupation in television news, he retired on March 29, 2022.
