Pramukh Swami Maharaj Born:

Pramukh Swami Maharaj’s original name was Patel Shantilal. He was born on December 7, 1921 in the village of Chansad, Gujarat. His father Motibhai and mother Patel Divaliben were disciples of Shastriji Maharaj and followers of the Akshar Purushottam faith. Shastriji Maharaj is said to have blessed Shantilal at birth, telling his father, “This child is ours; give it to us when the time is right. It will lead thousands of people to God’s devotion, and through it, thousands of people will attain salvation.”

” Pramukh swami Maharaj had a strong religious upbringing. He used to jump to the Hanuman Mandir in his community as a child after finishing his daily schoolwork, and he eagerly listened to Haridas’ narratives and teachings as well as those of his youth friends.

Pramukhswami Maharaj spent time with Shastriji Mahraj when he visited the town with his followers. When he was 17 years old, Shastriji Maharaj, his master, wrote to him to request induction as a Swaminarayan Bhagwan monk. Pramukh swami Maharaj left his home the same day after receiving approval and riches from his parents, following Shastriji Mahraj’s instructions without fear.

At Ambali Wali Pol in November 1939, Shastri Maharaj conferred” Parshad Diksha”( Primary Initiation ) on Pramukh swami Mahraj. He adopted the name Shanti Bhagat after receiving his creation. He was given the name” Swarupdas Paksha” ( Servant of God Form) the following year, in January 1940.

Pramukh swami Maharaj studied Hindu and Sanskrit scriptures and earned the title of” Shastri” by mastering both philosophy and shastra. His guru, Shastriji Maharaj, appointed him the kothari( chief ) of the Sarangpur temple because of his thorough understanding of BAPS ‘ general affairs and activities. He was named the operational president of BAPS at the age of 28. Following this, he gained a reputation as Pramukh Swami.

” Living as a Pramukh Swami Maharaj”

Shastri Narayan Swarupdas, then 28 years old, received several letters from Shastriji Maharaj inviting him to visit BAPS and expressing his desire to be named the group’s leader in the first 1950s. Shastri Narayan Swarupadas politely declined this request twice, citing his youth, inexperience, and the presence of numerous top swamis who were better suited for the job. To persuade Shastri Narayan Swarupadas, Shastriji Maharaj persisted and dispatched a number of older followers. Shastri Narayan Swarupadas finally consented to the interview after believing his expert’s internal desire.

Shastri Narayan Swarupadas, then 28 years older, was named Pramukh Swami as the founding president of BAPS by Shastriji Maharaj on May 21, 1950, at Ambaliyali Pol in Ahmedabad. Shastri Narayan Swarupadas received a blessing from Shastriji Maharaj during the meeting, who also placed his blanket on his shoulders.

Therefore Shastri Narayan Swarupadas addressed the crowd, expressing his awe at the fervent kindness and love shown to him here. I will never forget this time when two of the Swaminarayan Sampradaya’s greatest hearts blessed me despite my youth. I think I am eligible for this position.

Shastri Narayan Swarupadas had been observed earlier that morning washing the cooking dishes used by followers who were in attendance at the evening service. This incident exemplified the subservient management style that characterized the following six years of his presidency.

BAPS expanded significantly under the direction of Pramukh Swami Maharaj. Millions of followers joined the company on a global scale. In order to present Buddhist tradition and culture on a global scale, he organized large-scale cultural festivals and undertook international spiritual tours to more than 27 nations. For instance, New Jersey hosted the Cultural Festival of India in 1991. Additionally, he constructed more than 1100 Indian temples, including Gandhinagar in Gujarat and the Swaminarayan Akshardham temple in New Delhi.
