Mamukkoya, the renowned Indian actor, was born on 5 July 1946 to Chalikandiyil Muhammed and Imbachi Ayisha. He received his primary education from MM High School in Calicut, Kerala. After completing his education at Pallikandi Elementary School, Kuttichira Higher Secondary School, and Kozhikode MM School, he started working at a timber yard in Kallayi. Despite his busy work schedule, he had a keen interest in theatrical productions, and he actively participated in school plays.

Mamukkoya continued to pursue his passion for acting by performing in several amateur plays, balancing his night-time performances with his day job at the timber yard. His dedication and hard work paid off, and he soon became a celebrated actor in the Malayalam cinema industry. Career

Mamukkoya started his career as a theatre actor and made his entry into the Malayalam cinema with Anyarude Bhoomi (1979). He was recommended for a role in Surumaitta Kannukal by Vaikom Muhammad Basheer. He gained recognition after playing an Arabic teacher in Doore Doore Oru Koodu Koottam. Mamukkoya’s performance in Gandhinagar Second Street was notable. He portrayed the character Gafoor in Sathyan Anthikkad’s Nadodikkattu (1987), which became a cult favorite in Kerala.

He received a Special Mention in the Kerala State Film Award for the movie Perumazhakkalam (2004) and won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film for his role in Byari. He also did the title role in the film Korappan, the Great (2001), which depicted him as a forest brigand like Veerappan. Some of his best performances are in Ramjirao Speaking, Thalayana Manthram, Shubhayatra, Irupatham Noottandu, Sreedharante Onnam Thirumurivu, Ponmuttayidunna Thaaravu, Pattanapravesham, and Dhwani.

Mamukkoya Death

Malayalam actor-comedian Mamukkoya, known for his versatile performances in the film industry, passed away on 26 April 2023 at the age of 77. The actor had collapsed on a football field while inaugurating a soccer tournament in Malappuram, Kerala, on 24 April 2023, and was rushed to a nearby hospital after suffering a heart attack. Unfortunately, two days later, he suffered a brain haemorrhage and remained in critical condition until his demise. The news of his death has left the film industry and his fans in shock and mourning, as he was one of the most loved and respected actors in Malayalam cinema. Mamukkoya’s contribution to the film industry will always be remembered, and he will be dearly missed.
