Ahtisaari, Eva Early Life and Education:

Ahtisaari, Eva was born in Varkaus, eastern Finland, in 1936. Her father was a carpenter and her mother was a housewife. She grew up in Kuopio and Helsinki, where she attended the Girls’ Lyceum High School. She graduated from the University of Helsinki in 1962 with a bachelor’s degree in history. She also studied museums and museum education in the United Kingdom in 1972.

Ahtisaari, Eva worked as a history teacher in Kuopio, Rovaniemi and Espoo in the 1960s and 1970s. She also worked as a curator of an open-air museum and a homestead museum in Espoo, where she emphasized the importance of preserving old architecture and restoring old buildings. She accompanied her husband Martti Ahtisaari to Tanzania, Namibia and New York, where he served as a diplomat and a UN official.

She got involved actively in the political and social issues facing native women in Namibia, where she aided in bridging the gap between rival women’s groups and accelerated the process of gaining freedom. For her work, she received honorary citizen in Namibia. In the late 1980s, she picked up her experiments again at the University of Helsinki, where she graduated with a master’s in past in 1989. Her thesis focused on Hilda Käkikoski, one of the first Scandinavian sexual politicians.

From 1994 to 2000, when her father was elected president of Finland, she served as the country’s First Lady. She encouraged human rights and democracy while supporting his efforts to promote harmony. Additionally, she took part in a 1990 – 1993 oral history project on Finnish parliamentarians. In 2002, her book Roots and Wings was released. After attending a concert at the Helsinki Music Center in March 2020, she tested positive for the corona.
